This Old Pool Table; A Family Heirloom Restored

Sep 5, 2011

Here is an older Global Billiards pool table we recently serviced for our clients in Long Beach, CA. This eight-foot, one-piece slate pool table used to belong to my client’s father. She grew up with this pool table and learned how to play pool on this table. She had racked up many, many fond memories with this old ball return pool table. Now, over 40 years later, this old pool table was starting to show its age. With dead cushions and worn-out felt, no one would be able to enjoy this finely crafted Danish pool table anymore. My client decided to have the entire pool table refinished. She dropped the six rails off to me when her furniture refinisher was done with them.

Once I had the rails in my shop I could start working my magic on them. We stripped the old felt from the rails and removed the crusty, old, petrified rubber cushions from the wood. About a week later, I had the new K-66 rubber cushions glued and trimmed, complete with new cushion facings. Next, I installed the new camel cloth that my client had chosen. About a week later, we went out to her newly remodeled Long Beach home to finish the rest of the work on her girlhood keepsake. The newly refinished, refelted and recushioned pool table looked and played great in her second-story game room
